  • Mass transfer processes involving bubbles and drops (Physics of Beer, bubble and drop dissolution, etc.)
  • Vortex dynamics (Buoyant vortex rings, vortex rings in microgravity conditions)
  • Viscous thin films
  • Interaction of bubbles and sound fields, with applications to the medical and oil industries
  • Locomotion of soft animals (cell mechanics, locomotion of snails...)

Short bio

Javier Rodríguez Rodríguez received his degree in Aerospace Engineering (6 year programme) at the School of Aeronautics of the Polytechnic University of Madrid in the year 2000. During his time in college he collaborated as a research assistant with the Microgravity Institute "Ignacio da Riva" in the design of attitude control algorithms for small satellites. After finishing his studies he moved as a teaching assistant to Carlos III University, where he got his PhD in Fluid Mechanics in 2004 under the supervision of Prof. Carlos Martínez-Bazán. His thesis research concerned the breakup of gas bubbles in a turbulent jet. In january 2005 he moved to the University of California at San Diego as a postdoctoral researcher in the team of Prof. Juan C. Lasheras, where he  worked in cell mechanics and wave dynamics. In 2012 he completed his degree in Physics at UNED.

In october 2006 he joined the Fluid Mechanics Group of Carlos III University of Madrid.

Teaching Activities

Javier Rodríguez teaches a number of both undergraduate and graduate courses at the Department of Thermal and Fluids Engineering of Carlos III University. Besides the regular teaching activity, Javier supervises the work of several undergraduate and master students working on different topics as part of their education (end-of-degree projects).
