Education

Immaculada Iglesias studied Chemistry in the Facultad de Ciencias Químicas in Tarragona, which then was a part of the Universidad de Barcelona, getting the degree in 1988. She specialized in Chemical Engineering. Her interests in Computational Fluid Mechanics come from that time.

In 1989 she moved to the University of California at Berkeley where she obtained a Master of Science degree in Engineering in 1992 and a PhD degree in 1994, under the supervision of professor Joseph A.C. Humphrey in the Mechanical Engineering Department. Her dissertation dealt with numerical simulation of rotating disk flows.

She moved to Madrid in 1994 to do a postdoctoral stay in the School of Aeronautics with professor Amable Liñán. In 1996 she joined the emerging group of Fluid Mechanics in the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid where she got an associate professor position in 2003.

Research Interests

Currently, her main research activity is in the field of numerical modelling of laminar reacting flows, simulating starting jets and vortex rings. In particular, she is numerically investigating the ignition of a reactive mixture by a starting hot jet of its reaction products.

She is also involved in a research project that deals with fluid dynamical aspects of the design and operation of Direct Methanol Fuel Cells.

Teaching Activities

Since  1996, Immaculada Iglesias teaches undergraduate courses of fluid mechanics and computational fluid mechanics, as well as graduate courses of numerical methods and computational fluid mechanics.
